District Development Commissioner, Baramulla Inspects State-of-the-Art Mega Breed Multiplication Farm in Mazbug Sopore


 Baramulla, 07-09-24]: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Baramulla, Shri Minga Shirpa (IAS), today inspected a state-of-the-art Breed Multiplication Sheep Farm in Mazbug, Sopore. The modern facility, established under the National Livestock Mission (NLM) a centrally sponsored scheme, boasts a capacity of 500+25 animals and was set up with the active support of the Sheep Husbandry Department Baramulla in favor of Mr. Irfan Rahim Guroo.

 
The innovative sheep house, built at an estimated cost of ?116 lacs, showcases a unique and modern design. Upon his visit, Shri Shirpa was warmly received by Dr. Showkat Ahanger, District Sheep Husbandry Officer (DSHO) Baramulla, and was joined by Veterinary Assistant Surgeons Dr. Ishfaq Dhobi and Dr. Junaid Kar, along with prospective sheep farming aspirants 
 
Impressed by Mr. Guru's Integrated livestock system enterprise, Shri Shirpa lauded him for becoming a role model for the younger generation and contributing to sustainable sheep farming practices. Dr. Ishfaq Dhobi emphasized the need for establishing animal mandis and ensuring end-market avenues to make sheep husbandry profitable and sustainable.
 
Mr. Guru requested for subsidy interventions to offset transportation costs of feed raw materials, enabling sheep farmers to produce their own feed at reduced costs.
 
The worthy DDC Baramulla directed DSHO Baramulla to initiate proposals for establishing a sheep mandi and facilitating the creation of a wool processing unit in the district, aimed at strengthening the region's sheep husbandry sector.
