KATHUA, JULY 27: In observance of World Hepatitis Day, Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Dr. Rakesh Minhas, inaugurated a special health check-up and vaccination camp at District Jail Kathua today.

The camp aimed to raise awareness about Hepatitis B and C among the prisoners and was organized for over 350 inmates.

The event was attended by Superintendent, District Jail Kathua Kaushal Kumar, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kathua Dr. Vijay Raina and a dedicated team from the Health Department to address public health concerns within the correctional facility.

Interacting with the inmates, the DC emphasized the importance of timely testing and vaccination for Hepatitis B and C, both of which are viral diseases that can become life-threatening if left undetected. He highlighted the role of safe practices, such as the use of single-use syringes, in preventing the spread of these diseases. He stressed for holding similar health camps in the future, aimed at curbing the spread of Hepatitis and educating the public on preventive measures.

"The key to controlling and curing Hepatitis lies in timely testing and adherence to safe practices. By organizing these camps, we are taking proactive steps to protect the health of our citizens, particularly those in vulnerable situations," said Dr. Minhas. He further encouraged inmates to maintain health consciousness and adopt precautionary measures during their incarceration and upon rejoining their families, urging them to lead healthier lives as informed citizens.

Superintendent Jail expressed gratitude towards the District Administration for their initiative in conducting the camp, which ensures proper health assessments and medical assistance for the inmates to prevent the spread of Hepatitis B and C within the facility.
