Jammu, Oct 03 (RNA): Congress Working President for Jammu and Kashmir and former Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand, Thursday claimed that he was attacked by "goons" in his Akhnoor residence on polling day. The former Speaker of the J&K Assembly has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India, alleging that he was attacked and threatened for his life by some "criminals" inside his residence in Akhnoor on the evening of October 1, 2024, when the polling process had concluded.
In his letter to ECI, Tara Chand alleged, "The applicant, contesting the election for the Legislative Assembly from the Congress party in Chhamb Constituency, was visiting different polling stations with security on 1st October 2024, the voting day. Around 8:00 - 8:30 p.m. on the same day, while sitting at his residence with supporters in Village Chak Malal, Tehsil Khour, three individuals (Jatinder Singh, Arjun Singh, Ashok Singh) entered the house, and two more stood outside. The accused persons asked the applicant to come outside, but the applicant refused, knowing they were armed and previously threatened him. Jatinder Singh attempted to draw a weapon, but the applicant’s supporters stopped him, leading the accused to flee and threaten to kill the applicant. The applicant informed the police telephonically, but no action has been taken against the accused".
Meanwhile Tara Chand said, "Despite reporting the incident to the Police Station Khour, SDPO Akhnoor, and SSP Jammu, and filing a formal complaint with the ECI, no FIR has been registered to date".
