HALF-HEARTED COMMITMENT & INSINCERITY MAY CAST A SHADOW OVER NC-CONGRESS POST-ELECTION ALLIANCE

Srinagar, Sep 27 : In a recent press statement, Ahmad Ayaz, a noted political analyst and National TV debater, voiced skepticism about the future of the NC-Congress alliance, citing the National Conference’s (NC) perceived half-hearted commitment and insincerity toward this partnership.
Recent developments in the Shalteng constituency suggest the alliance is under strain, with visible cracks beginning to surface. NC leader Irfan Shah’s decision to contest independently against Congress candidate Tariq Hameed Karra raises alarms regarding the future of this coalition. Shah’s move risks splitting the opposition vote in a crucial constituency, jeopardizing Karra, who is also the president of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC).
Further complicating matters, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi campaigned in Shalteng without the presence of any prominent NC leaders. This absence signals possible discontent within the alliance and raises questions about the sincerity of the NC’s support.
Shalteng, a critical constituency in the NC-Congress strategy to consolidate anti-BJP votes, now finds itself at the center of these emerging tensions. Shah’s candidacy may indicate deeper internal issues within the NC, potentially reflecting factionalism or strategic maneuvering. The lack of NC leaders during Karra’s campaign casts further doubt on the cohesion of the alliance.
The future of the NC-Congress alliance now appears uncertain, with the prospect of post-election cooperation between the two parties hanging in the balance. If these cracks are not addressed, the alliance could unravel, potentially paving the way for the NC-BJP to form a government in Jammu and Kashmir.
