AIP condemns violence against students in Bangladesh, urge safety for Indian nationals

Srinagar, July 20, 2024 : Awami Ittehad Party has strongly criticized the Bangladesh’s Sheikh Hasina government for its handling of student protests seeking their rights. The party's spokesperson, Firdous Baba, issued a statement expressing deep concern over the violence unleashed on students by the authorities.

The party has also called upon India's Ministry of External Affairs to ensure the safety of Indian nationals and students currently in Bangladesh. Baba said that they were actively communicating with concerned Indian families and will raise their apprehensions with the Ministry.

He emphasized facilitating safe passage for students who wish to leave Bangladesh amidst the ongoing crisis and stressed that such measures are essential to safeguarding the well-being of Indian nationals in the country.

Awami Ittehad Party urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to heed the legitimate demands of the youth and student community, emphasizing that the youth should not be marginalized or deprived of their rights.

“Future of any nation depends on nurturing its youth and ensuring they are not compelled to resort to protests for their basic rights,” Baba said in a statement issued here.

The party's statements come in response to escalating tensions in Bangladesh, where protests by students have met with a heavy-handed government response.
